BEST PREMIER LEAGUE BAR IN AMERICA

NBCSports

Role: UI/UX –  Year: 2015 –  Agency: Huemor

PROJECT SUMMARY

NBCSports airs some of the most well known sports in the world, including Premier League Soccer. In 2015, they hosted a contest to let fans and patrons vote for the best bar in America to watch Premier League games. A robust platform was created that allowed users to submit and nominate their favorite bar and post to the expansive social feed.

Challenges

This project had an accelerated timeline, at somewhere around 8 weeks. The contest branding was being created outside of our organziation throughout the design process. This meant elements in the design were changing almost daily. This proved to be diffuclt as we were always adding in new lockups, fonts and styles.

Design Process

The project began with a kick-off discovery meeting to layout goals, set expectations, learn about the project and get the client excited. Anticipating users would be voting from their favorite bar, the site was designed mobile first. A top and bottom pinned navigation was used to create an application feel and intuitively allow users to jump from page to page.

Participants

The contest revolved around voting for bars. A central hub was created to allow users to find bars by name or location and quickly cast a vote while simultaniously posting to the social feed.

The feed pulled posts from branded NBCSports Twitter and Facebook accounts as well as specific hashtags from user content across Twitter and Facebook. A cohesive, masonary grid feed was created to combined 3 social platforms and site generated content that was both mobile and desktop friendly.

Where and When?

One of the less exciting pages but one of my favorites, the schedule page was the gateway to every game. Users could find out when teams were playing and what channel the game was on. This page also served as an opportunity to drive users to NBCSports' Live Extra streaming service (win-win).
